Is your vehicle due for some routine maintenance? Maybe it’s low on oil? When you have a warning light show up on your dashboard it’s important to be able to identify it and fast. Any delay could spell trouble for your beloved vehicle. Here’s a quick and easy guide to help you identify common dashboard lights that might show up.
Honda dashboard light reference
One general rule of thumb is that the color of the warning light is also important. Green is good, yellow is a notification and red means that the issue needs attention immediately. You will probably see yellow or green lights more than you will ever see red, especially if you are driving a newer vehicle.
Temperature warning light
Bad news, but your vehicle’s engine is overheating or is about to. It’s best to pull over to the side of the road when it’s safe to do so in order to let the engine cool down.
Antilock Brake System light
This icon means that there could be an issue with the ABS system and could indicate that your brakes might lock up if you brake hard. It’s best to bring your vehicle to your trusted mechanic as soon as you are able.
Airbag Indicator light
Please note that there is a difference between the general indicator light (that usually shows up on the center console) that tells you the airbag is on and this warning light. The airbag warning light typically will show up on your vehicle’s dashboard and indicated that there may be a malfunction in the airbag. When you see this light it’s important to bring your vehicle in for service as soon as possible to make sure everything is working correctly.
Electrical System Warning light
If you get this light you might be headed for or are experiencing battery or alternator problems. This is particularly frustrating in the winter. But no matter what time of year it may be, it’s important to bring your vehicle in for service as soon as possible so your mechanic can test the alternator’s charging capacity and identify any issues.
Oil Pressure Warning light
This is your vehicle’s way of telling you that it needs oil and needs it now. Typically if you are seeing this warning your vehicle may only have two liters of oil left. Add some oil as soon as possible because if you forget and your vehicle runs without oil, the engine will be ruined.
